Love at First Invite™ offers three different methods for
printing your invitations: digital, thermography, and letterpress. Each process
produces a completely different and unique effect. Whether you select digital,
thermography, or letterpress to print your invitations, each process has its features. Here is a brief description of the three different printing methods.
Digital Solid Ink: Digital is the most common and cost-effective form of printing. We take it one step further with Solid Ink printing. The non-toxic ink is resin-based, similar to a crayon. Ink is instantly fused onto the paper using heat and
pressure. It is a green process, as there are no cartridges to throw away. Digital printing is fast, as
many multiples can be created quickly. It also requires very little setup time
and last minute changes can be made with relative ease. The quality of digital
printing is not as high as offset printing, but the difference between the two
products is often unnoticeable. It is not archival in nature and the colors will fade over time. This process is very quick with a week turnaround, with rush printing also available. Digital allows for unlimited colors in printing with no extra cost.

Thermography: This
process is sometimes called “imitation engraving”. It produces raised type
using heat. Thermography is made the same as offset printing, with an extra step at the end. There are plates made with the reversed image, and ink is applied to the plates. A special powder is added to the ink used for printing. The printed
ink is then heated and melted into a solid mass, which creates a raised
surface. The final result is similar to that of the engraving method, but it is
a quicker and less expensive process. Thermography creates a distinctive raised
look, and adds a distinguished and elegant touch to printed materials. This process is more expensive than digital, but less expensive than letterpress. Turnaround is usually 2-3 weeks for this method. Thermography is priced per ink color, as a separate plate is made for each color.

Letterpress: Letterpress
is the oldest method of printing, developed by Gutenberg in the mid 15th
century, this process creates an
image by pressing an inked raised metal (or poly) plate into a sheet of paper, creating a recessed image. This
process entails a great deal of
preparation, there is a higher setup cost, which makes is inefficient for low-quantity runs, but very cost-effective for high-quantity runs. This process also takes longer to print, 3-4 weeks on average. Letterpressed pieces are a unique and beautiful and the papers are luxurious. It is a one-of-a-kind way to wow you're guests and it's very archival to last a long time. Letterpress is priced per ink color, as a separate plate is made for each color.
